Introduction

INKLINGS

They that wait upon the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings as eagles;
They shall run and not grow weary;
They shall walk and not faint."

Isaiah 40:31

The Inklings Fellowship began informally as a group of friends with a common interest in C. S. Lewis and a common concern for the loss of positive Christian vitality in the mainstream of American higher education. Beginning with the first Inklings Weekend in 2001, the Inklings Fellowship has grown to include resources and programs designed to offer encouragement and stimulation for Christians called to education.

About Us

ORIGINS

Let your light so shine before men,
That they may see your good works,
And glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 5:16

The Inklings Fellowship is a community of Christians from all walks of life dedicated to the transformation of higher education through teaching and writing, and by encouraging young Christian scholars to bring a Christian perspective to their disciplines.

The Inklings Fellowship takes its inspiration from an informal group of Christians in Oxford who met together from the early 1930s until the early 1960s. Members of the group included C. S. Lewis, Warren H. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Lord David Cecil, and Charles Williams who became internationally known for their popular writings. While the Inklings met weekly to read aloud from whatever they might be currently working on, primarily they met as friends to enjoy one another and encourage one another in a world not known for joy or encouragement.

The Inklings Fellowship believes that the Christian life is best characterized by joy which comes through the shared life with others in mutual encouragement. Realizing that we cannot do everything, we feel called to encourage young Christians who feel called to the academic life of higher education. Further, we dedicate ourselves to do what we can to equip young Christian scholars to live successful lives that make a positive contribution to the world of learning.

RESOURCES

Helpful for your work

The Inklings Fellowship makes available resources that will help Christians in higher education understand how their faith intersects and interfaces with their discipline. In addition to papers presented at Inklings Fellowship events, we recommend work done by others that contributes to this project. When possible, we make resources available for free.
